Prophet Jesus

We are here to open an honest, calm, and respectful window into Islam.

The Prophet Isa, peace be upon him, occupies a great place in Islam, as he is one of the first of the Prophets, and is considered one of the greatest prophets sent by God to guide mankind. Muslims believe that Jesus was born from the Virgin Mary without a father, by a divine miracle, and that his birth was a sign of God's great signs.

Muslims believe that Jesus, peace be upon him, is the promised Messiah, and that he called his people to worship God alone, and that God supported him with remarkable miracles, such as raising the dead and healing the sick, with God's permission, and that he will return at the end of time to establish justice, break the cross and kill the Antichrist. They also believe that he was not crucified or killed, but that God raised him up, and that he will return at the end of time to establish justice, break the cross, and kill the Antichrist.

Islam honours Jesus and affirms that he is a noble prophet and slave of God, not a god or the son of a god. Islam also honours his mother, Maryam, who is given a unique place in the Holy Quran, and her name is mentioned more than once in the Book of Allah, and there is a surah named after her in the Quran.

The story of the Prophet Jesus, peace be upon him

* The genealogy of Prophet Isa (peace be upon him)

The Prophet Jesus, peace be upon him, belongs to his mother Mary's family, because he was born by a divine miracle without a father. He is a prophet of God from the Israelites, and God revealed to him a heavenly book, the Gospel, and he is Jesus, son of Mary, daughter of Imran, descended from Prophet Solomon, peace be upon him, king of the Jews in Jerusalem before its destruction at the hands of King Nebuchadnezzar.

Imran, Mary's father, was a rabbi (i.e. a sheikh). He was a righteous man, and his wife was righteous, good, pure, loyal and obedient to him and her Lord, so the product of this blessed marriage was the Virgin Mary, peace be upon her, but her father died of illness while she was still a foetus in her mother's womb, so the Prophet Zakariya, peace be upon him, sponsored her, and she lived in the Palestinian village of Zipporiya. When the Prophet sponsored her, he took her to a shrine to worship in Jerusalem, and she was diligent in worship, so that when he passed by her in the shrine, he would find food, and he would wonder and ask her, "Where did you get this from, Mary," and she would answer him that it is from God, who gives whoever He wishes without reckoning.

* The Annunciation and Birth of Prophet Isa (peace be upon him)

Allah sent Gabriel, peace be upon him, to Mary, to tell her that Allah had chosen her among all the women of the world to give her a son without a father, and promised her that he would be an honourable prophet. She said to him, "How can she have a son when she did not marry or commit fornication?" He told her that Allah does what He wants: {The angels said, "O Mary, Allah has chosen you, purified you, and set you apart from the women of the world." * O Mary, bow down to your Lord, prostrate yourself, and kneel with those who kneel * This is a revelation of the unseen, and you were not aware of it. And you were not there when they cast their pens, saying, "Which of them shall be the guardian of Mary?" and you were not there when they were disputing * When the angels said, "O Mary, God will give you glad tidings of a word from Him. from Him whose name is Christ Jesus, son of Mary, a face in this world and the hereafter and among the near and dear ones * He will speak to people in the crib and as a child and among the righteous * She said, "Lord, how can I have a son and I have not been touched by a human being? No man has touched me." He said, "Such is Allah, who creates what He wills, when He decides a matter, He only says to it, 'Be and it shall be' * And He teaches him the Book, the Wisdom, the Torah and the Gospel * And an Apostle to the children of Israel.}

The virgin Mary became pregnant, and when her pregnancy became known, no one's house was as anxious and sad as the house of Zakaria's family, who sponsored her, and heretics accused her of accusing Joseph, her cousin who worshipped with her in the mosque, of being the father of the child.

Mary spent hard times until she hid from people to a palm tree trunk in Bethlehem, when she went into labour and gave birth to Jesus. Mary was saddened by people telling her falsehood and wished to die, but Gabriel, peace be upon him, came to her and reassured her not to be afraid and that Allah Almighty had given her a river to drink from and to shake the palm tree trunk so that wet dates would fall on her, and to fast from talking if she saw any human being because it would be useless, Allah says in Surah Maryam: {So she conceived him and took him to a far off place * Then the labour brought her to the trunk of the palm tree, and she said, "O that I had died before this, and that I had been forgotten!" * He called to her from underneath her, "Do not be sad, for your Lord has made your bosom a secret. * And I will shake you with the trunk of the palm tree, and it will fall on you with fairy dust * So eat, drink, and rest your eyes, and if you see any of the people, say, "I have made a vow of fasting to the merciful, so I will not speak to mankind today.}

* Isa speaks in the cradle

When the virgin Mary awoke from her labour in Bethlehem in Jerusalem, she went to her people carrying Jesus, peace be upon him, and they accused her of obscenity and slandered her, and they accused the noble Prophet of God, Zakaria, peace be upon him, who was in the place of her father and sponsored her after the death of her father, and they wanted to kill him, so he fled from them and a tree split for him to hide inside it, but Satan grabbed the tip of his robe and appeared to them, so they spread it. When the people went to Mary to ask her about the lineage of her infant, she did not utter a word and pointed to the Prophet Isa in a threatening manner so that they would take the answer from him, so they said to her, "How do you want us to speak to an infant?" So God Almighty spoke the Prophet Isa to tell them that he is God's messenger to them.

Allah Almighty says in Surah Maryam: {She brought him to her people carrying him, and they said, "O Mary, you have brought a terrible thing" * O sister of Aaron, your father was not a bad man, and your mother was not a prostitute * She pointed to him, and they said, "How can we speak to someone who was in the cradle as a child? * He said, "I am the servant of God, who gave me the Book and made me a prophet * He made me blessed wherever I was, and commanded me to pray and give alms as long as I live * and to be faithful to my mother, and did not make me a wicked bridegroom. * Peace be upon me on the day I am born, on the day I die, and on the day I am resurrected alive * That is Jesus, the son of Mary, the word of truth in which they doubt * God could not have taken a son. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, "Be and it shall be" * And Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him, and this is a straight path * So the parties differed among themselves, and woe to those who disbelieve from the sight of a great day }.

* Mary rushes to Egypt and lives there to protect Isa from being killed

The Gospel says that when Mary gave birth to the Prophet Jesus and became famous for his cradle talk, the King of the Jews at the time wanted to kill him out of fear for his king because of Jesus' prophecy, so Mary travelled to Egypt to take refuge there, and thus Christ survived death and Egypt was honoured to shelter him and his mother, the Virgin Mary, on its land for 12 years, until Jesus grew up and showed signs of dignity, and the Holy Family passed through many places in Egypt, including Matariya and Ain Shams, where there was a tree in which they shaded themselves from the heat of the sun. The Holy Family passed through many places in Egypt, including Matariya and Ain Shams, where there was a tree in this place where they were shaded from the heat of the sun, known to this day as "Mary's Tree", with a spring with water and he drank from it, and the Virgin washed his clothes in it, until the family reached the Drenka Monastery in Mount Assiut where there is an ancient cave carved into the mountain in which they stayed, representing the last stops of the family on their journey to Egypt.

* The message and miracles of Prophet Isa (peace be upon him)

Jesus, peace be upon him and his mother Mary, returned from Egypt to Jerusalem when he was 12 years old, then God decreed that the Gospel would be revealed to him to become one of the first prophets, who faced the hardship of spreading the call of monotheism in the people of the Israelites, and in order for them to believe in him, God gave him great miracles: he raised the dead by the command of God, created birds from clay by the command of God, and healed the sick, including the blind and the lepers.

God Almighty says in Surah Al-Imran: {And teach him the Scripture and wisdom, the Torah and the Gospel * And as a messenger to the children of Israel that I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, that I create for you out of clay the form of a bird and breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by the permission of God, and that I heal the blind, cure the lepers, and revive the dead by the permission of God, and tell you what you eat and what you save in your homes, for that is a sign to you, if you are believers. what you eat and what you store in your houses, for this is a sign for you if you believe * And I am the believer of what is between my hands of the Torah, and I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so fear God and obey me * God is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him; this is a straight path }.

* The disbelief and stubbornness of the Israelites and their co-operation in killing Prophet Jesus

He healed the blind and the lepers and created birds by God's command, but these miracles did not deter them from their disbelief and polytheism, and the Prophet had a righteous group of supporters and helpers. When the Prophet Isa sensed their disbelief, he called on the "Apostles" to support the call, and ordered them to fast for thirty days, and when they completed it, they asked the Prophet to ask God to send down a table from the sky.

Allah says in Surah Al-Baqarah: {Isa'iya Ibn Mary said, "O Allah, Lord, send down upon us a table from the sky that will be a feast for us for our first and our last, and a sign from You, and provide for us, and You are the best provider (114) Allah said, "I am the one who is descending it upon you; if any of you disbelieve after that, I will punish him with a punishment that I will not punish any of the worlds.}

The Israelites wanted to kill Prophet Isa, so they ratted him out to some kings, so they intended to kill him and crucify him, but Allah Almighty saved him from their hands, and threw one of the men of the Israelites with his likeness, so they thought he was Isa, peace be upon him, so they killed the man and crucified him, while Allah Almighty raised His Messenger Isa, unharmed, to the heavens.

Allah says, "When Allah said, 'O Jesus, I will raise you up to Me and purify you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection; then I will return to you and judge between you in what you used to differ. * As for those who disbelieve, I will punish them severely in this world and the hereafter, and they will have no supporters * As for those who believe and do good deeds, He will reward them with their rewards. And God does not love the unjust * These we recite to you from the signs and wise remembrance * The parable of Jesus in the sight of God is like the parable of Adam; He created him from dust and then said to him, "Be and it shall be" * The truth is from your Lord, so do not be one of those who are disbelievers. Whoever argues with you about him after you have received the knowledge, then say, "Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves, and then let us pray, so that we may make the curse of Allah upon the liars.}

Islam and the Trinity

In its origin, the Christian religion is a heavenly message whose foundation was the call to the monotheism of God Almighty and the belief in His servant and messenger, Jesus son of Mary, whom God Almighty specialised and chose to carry this message.

However, this religion was perverted and turned into a religion that believes in (Trinity), i.e: Three gods, namely: The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and they call these three the "Three Persons".

This is because they said: The Father is a person, the Son is a person, and the Holy Spirit is a person, but they are not three persons, but one person!

They also say: The Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God, but they are not three Gods, but one God.

The Christians say in their prayers: In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God.

Here, the minds of all mankind are unable to realise this impossible mathematical equation.

One person, one person and one person, not three persons, God, God and God, not three gods, but one person and one God!

The Christians themselves have recognised that reason cannot know the truth of this.

"Trinitarianism among Christians: The belief in the existence of three hypostases (holy persons, singular hypostasis) in the divinity; this is called the Holy Trinity. This is a central Christian belief, which claims that God is one in essence, but has three hypostases (persons) - God is exalted - and these hypostases are the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

This concept is unacceptable to Muslims, and large sections of Christians as well. It is well known that the term Trinity is not mentioned in the Gospels, but the followers of the Catholic Church and Protestants adhere to these teachings, and argue that they are identical to the texts of the Gospels.

Those who rejected this idea were condemned by the Church as heretics. Among the opponents were the Ebionites, who held firmly to the view that Christ was a human being like other human beings, the Sabellians, who believed that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit were different forms in which God revealed Himself to people, the Eusebians, who believed that the Son was not eternal like the Father, but was created by Him before the world, and therefore inferior and subordinate to the Father, and the Macedonians, who denied that the Holy Spirit was a hypostasis (a hypostasis).

As for the concept of the Trinity as Christians believe it today : It gradually crystallised after long debates, discussions and disputes, and only took its final form after the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD and the Council of Constantinople in 381 AD."

We find the oneness of God in many places in their holy books, despite the distortion and alteration of the words of the Lord of the Worlds:

In the Old Testament: Deuteronomy 6:4: "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord."

In 4:35: "You have been shown, that you may know that the LORD is God. There is no other besides him." That's it.

As for the New Testament, despite the successive distortions, it contains what proves monotheism and indicates that Jesus is neither a god nor the son of a god.

In John (17:3): "And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent."

And in Mark (13/32): "As for that day and hour : No one knows it, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, except the Father."

How can Jesus be God when he does not know that hour? And how do the Christians say : The Son and the Father are equal in power?

And in Matthew (27/46): "About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a great voice, saying: Eli, Eli, why hast thou forsaken me? My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"

If he was God, how could he cry out to another God, how could he cry out in pain, and how could he say, "Why have you forsaken me?" when he came down, allegedly to be crucified?

And in John (20:17): "Jesus said to her, "Do not touch me, for I have not yet ascended to my Father. But go to my brothers and tell them that I am my God and your God."

This is a clear and explicit text in equating Jesus with all other people, as they are all sons of God - in a metaphorical sense - and worship one God, Allah. This statement was said by Jesus shortly before the ascension, which proves that our master Jesus, peace be upon him, was declaring that he was the servant of God and that God was his God until the last moment of his stay on earth, and there is not a single text in all the Gospels in which Jesus, peace be upon him, says that he is God, or that he is the son of God by descent and birth, nor did he order anyone to worship him or prostrate to him.

As for the argument that Jesus' birth without a father supports the divinity of Christ, this is not true, because it is not something unique to Prophet Jesus. God Almighty created Adam without a father or mother, created Eve from a father only, created Jesus from a mother only, and created all other human beings from a father and a mother, thus completing all types of human creation.

The return of Prophet Jesus at the end of time

The three monotheistic religions agree: Judaism, Christianity and Islam agree on the coming of a "saviour" or "Messiah" or "Mashiach" as it is called in Judaism, at the end of time, to save believers from evil, but they differ in the details of this. While the Christian and Islamic views of the Messiah are very close, as both sides are waiting for the descent of the same person, "Jesus bin Maryam", Judaism expects a king who will restore sovereignty to God's chosen people.

The following is the story of the return of Christ or the appearance of the end-time saviour as told by his followers:

Judaism

The idea of the coming of the Messiah differs greatly from that of the Muslims, as he is a descendant of David, as Professor Mohamed Khalifa al-Tunisi says about him: "The Jews are waiting for a Messiah who will save them from submission to the Gentiles, provided he is not in the form of a saint as Jesus appeared to save them from moral sins," so they are waiting for him as a king from David's descendants who will restore the king to Israel and subjugate all kingdoms to the Jews, and this will only happen if the power in the world collapses except for the Jews, because the power over people is the prerogative of the Jews in their eyes as God's chosen people. According to Dr Mona Nazem in "The Jewish Messiah and the concept of Israeli sovereignty", it is referred to as Mashiach, which means the coming of a Jewish Messiah and a strong hero characterised by the qualities of fighting ability that enable the Israelites from the state of defeat to sovereignty over other peoples, who come to them in obedient worship, offering gifts to their Lord "Jehovah", and the worship of peoples to this Lord becomes a submission to the Israelites.

The name "Mashiach" was given to the king who will rule in the end times and bring salvation to the people of Israel. The expression "Mashiach ben David" was also popularised in reference to the fact that he is a descendant of David, as we have already mentioned, and according to the Talmud, disasters and calamities will descend on the people of Israel and the world before the coming of the Messiah. According to the Book of Isaiah, he has supernatural and special qualities, and the Spirit of the Lord comes upon him and brings justice and peace, "And it shall be in that day that the Lord shall restore his hand again to acquire the remnant of his people that remain...He will raise the banner of the nations and gather the exiles of Israel, and gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth." Isaiah 11

The Messiah, the Saviour, is also mentioned in the Talmud: "The earth shall bring forth unleavened bread and garments of wool, and wheat whose grain is as great as the kidneys of great oxen; and at that time the power shall be restored to the Jews, and all nations shall serve that Messiah and be subject to him; and at that time every Jew shall have two thousand eight hundred slaves to serve him..."

Christianity

"Christianity took from Judaism the idea of the Saviour King, the son of David, who would appear at the end of time, and attached it to Jesus," says Nabil Ansi Al-Ghandour, author of the book "Christ the Saviour in Jewish and Christian Sources". The words of the Gospel promise that the Messiah will return again with great power and glory, as the Book of Revelation says: "Behold, he comes with the clouds, and every eye will wait for him, and those who pierced him, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn for him." However, it agrees in many places with the Islamic view.

The idea of Christ's return in the New Testament is that he will descend to earth and reunite believing Christians after the final period of human life on earth begins, which lasts seven years, during which the Antichrist, a powerful king, will appear and subject many peoples to him, including the people of Israel itself in the middle of the period, and then the Antichrist will pursue and chase the people of Israel itself and seek to destroy them, and will declare himself a god from the Temple.

At the end of the last seven years, the nations will mobilise against Jerusalem, but the Lord will not enable them to succeed in their scheming. Jesus Christ himself and his army of angels will descend and destroy those nations, and even those who killed him will believe in him, as the book of Zechariah says: "And they shall look upon them that pierced him, and shall mourn for him as for a lonely child." This tribulation ends with judgement in the Christian faith, "And when the Son of Man shall return in his glory with all his angels, he shall sit upon the throne of his glory, and all nations shall be gathered before him, and he shall separate them from one another as a shepherd divides the sheep from the goats." Then he shall send the believers - those on his right - to the kingdom prepared for them from the foundation of the world, and the others - on his left - to hell, saying, "Depart from me, ye cursed ones: "Depart from me, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his associates." (Matthew 25) Both groups will spend eternal life there.

Islam

Jesus, peace be upon him, did not die and was not crucified as they thought, and their followers still think so to this day, but God survived and raised him to Himself, and one of the great signs of the Hour is that He will descend at the end of time to rule the whole earth with the rule of God and justice will prevail in it as it was not before, and all will be united under one ruler, Jesus son of Mary, peace be upon him, and the People of the Book, who thought they had killed him, will believe in him at that time: (And there is none of the People of the Book except they would believe in him before his death, and on the Day of Judgement he will be a witness against them).

Description of Jesus

One of the major signs of the Hour is the descent of Jesus (peace be upon him), as the Prophet Muhammad said: "And whoever my soul is in his hand, it is imminent that the Son of Mary will descend among you as a righteous judge." The Prophet Muhammad described him by saying: "I saw Jesus as a square man, with a reddish-white complexion and a white hair, with a short head.

The place where Jesus descended

His descent will be at the White Lighthouse to the east of Damascus, placing his palms on the wings of two kings. This time will be at dawn as Muslims are lining up for prayer, and he will pray with them under the leadership of the righteous man (al-Mahdi).

Jesus' mission on earth

When Jesus, peace be upon him, descends from heaven, he will follow the law of Islam, rule by the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad, and abolish all other beliefs and their manifestations. He will break the cross, kill the pig, put the jizya, and support Muslims in getting rid of the corrupt Yajooj and Magooj people on earth when he calls on them to die.

The Prophet Muhammad said: "Jesus, the son of Mary, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, will come down and lead them, and when the enemy of Allah sees him, he will dissolve like salt dissolves in water, and if he left him, he would dissolve until he perishes, but Allah will kill him with his own hand, and he will show them his blood in his spear.

One of the things that will happen after the revelation of Prophet Jesus, peace be upon him, is that enmity, hatred and envy will be removed from among the people, as the word of all will be united on Islam, blessings will spread, and good things will abound, as the earth will sprout its crops, and there will be no desire to acquire wealth because of its abundance.

The duration of Jesus' life and death

Some narrations say that he stayed on earth for forty years, and others say seven years, and this difference is due to the fact that they calculated the duration of his life before he was raised to heaven, as he was thirty-three years old and then descended to earth, stayed seven years and died. There is no text in the Qur'an that tells us where Jesus will die, but some scholars have mentioned that he will die in the Prophet's city, and it is said that he will be buried with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah be pleased with him and his two companions.

The Wisdom of the Descent of Jesus

The wisdom of the revelation of Jesus, peace be upon him, and not other prophets at the end of time is evident in the following:

  • Replying to the Jews in their claim that they killed Jesus, peace be upon him, so Allah Almighty showed their lie.

  • He breaks the cross, kills the pig, and lays down the jizyah.

  • His coming at the end of time is a renewal of what was taught in the religion of Islam, the religion of Muhammad, peace be upon him.

  • Jesus, peace be upon him, descended from heaven at the end of his life to be buried in the earth; for no creature made of earth can die in any other.
