Ataturk was the beginning of the nation’s transition to authoritarian rule. He abolished the Caliphate and began his rule with a hideous process to strip the Turks of their Islamic identity under complete British supervision. He abolished the Ministry of Endowments and religious schools, converted many mosques into museums, executed many imams, banned Hajj and Umrah trips, abolished the veil and the Arabic alphabet, forced Turks to worship in the Turkish language, transferred the weekly holiday to Sunday like the Christians, forced people to wear the European hat and executed anyone who refused to wear these hats. He banned religious schools and abolished Sharia courts. He removed the monasteries and shrines, adopted the international calendar, wrote laws inspired by the Swiss constitution, abolished religious holidays and occasions, sold Azerbaijan to the Russians, eliminated freedoms and opponents of his policies, and made the media only talk about his heroism, conquests, and news, all of which were false. Ataturk was not satisfied with that, but abolished the Arabic alphabet and used the Latin alphabet.
