The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “A night will come upon the people that will be equal to three of your nights. When that happens, those who are performing voluntary prayers will recognize it. One of them will get up and recite his portion of the Qur’an, then sleep. Then he will get up and recite his portion of the Qur’an, then sleep. While they are like that, the people will shout to one another, saying, ‘What is this?’ They will rush to the mosque and suddenly they will see the sun rising from the west. The people will make a great uproar until, when it is in the middle of the sky, it will return and rise from its rising place. He said, ‘At that time, faith will not benefit a soul.’” According to another hadith of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace: “The stars do not set, they have stood still.” This will be followed by the Earth’s rotation stopping for a night of two or three nights in the hemisphere of the Earth whose center is the Middle East, which will be accompanied by a day of three days in the opposite hemisphere.
