I give you good tidings of the Mahdi who will be sent among my nation when there are differences among the people and earthquakes. He will fill the earth with equity and justice as it had been filled with injustice and oppression. The Inhabitant of the heavens and the Inhabitant of the earth will be pleased with him. He will distribute wealth equally. A man asked him, “What is ‘equally?’” He said, “Equally among the people.” He said, “And Allah will fill the hearts of the nation of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with richness, and His justice will suffice them until He orders a crier to call out, saying, ‘Who has need of wealth?’ Only one man will stand up and say, ‘I will.’ He will say, ‘Go to the custodian,’ meaning the treasurer. It will be said to him, ‘The Mahdi orders you to give me wealth.’ He will say to him, ‘Be patient.’ Then, when he places it in his lap and displays it, he will regret it and say, ‘I was the most greedy of the nation of Muhammad, or what sufficed for them was incapable of me.’ He will return it and it will not be accepted from him. It will be said to him, ‘We will not take back anything we gave.’ He will remain like this for seven, eight, or nine years. Then there will be no good in life after him.’ Or he said, ‘Then there will be no good in life after him.’ Narrator: Abu Saeed Al-Khudri | Narrator: Ibn Kathir | Source: Jami’ Al-Masaneed and Al-Sunan Page or number: 8/792 | Summary of the hadith scholar’s ruling: Its chain of transmission is good.
